Stress and lack of physical movement are the primary causes of modern day diseases and pain and have become routine in the work environment. The physical and psychological effects of stress such as headaches lower back pain, depression and anxiety combined with sustained incorrect postures, faulty movements and the lingering effect of previous injuries … all of these result in a workforce that operates below par and has a negative impact on bottom line results.

A biokineticist is a specialised exercise therapist who enhances an individual’s physical condition and quality of life through physical assessment and the recommendation of a health exercise programme.

The programme is designed to achieve optimum physical performance and has three phases.

  1. Stress relief. This is achieved through:
    a) Breathing techniques
    b) Hands-on relaxation techniques for head, neck and upper back muscle tension.
    c) Therapeutic stretches, movements and exercises.

  2. Movement: re-education and posture correction
This teaches employees how to move and use the correct muscles both at work and home in order to minimise further injury, inflammation and improve posture. The focus at all times is on prevention of injury.

  3. Employee restoration
An essential part of this phase is rehabilitation, education and advice regarding preventative approaches to avoid future injury and pain. This is achieved through:

    a) Simple movements
Easy to do feel good exercises, that will be used to rehabilitate current and past injuries and diseases. Each exercise is carefully monitored and supervised to ensure that it is performed correctly to maximise the benefits.

b ) Sports and Fitness guidance
This is an exciting new opportunity for employees who engage in regular sports or gym activities to ask questions and get instruction on how to perform various exercises safely and improve techniques.

Regular feedback from clients and careful assessment of symptoms will be used to consistently monitor progress. Commitment to the programme is the key to its success.
